• This preset follows the Department of Foreign Affairs (Ireland.ie) passport photo guidelines and Passport Online digital rules.

2.Pose & expression▼

• Look straight at the camera; do not tilt your head up, down, left, or right.

How to make this photo

1. 1.Step 1: Background and lighting

   • —Stand about one metre from the camera in front of a completely plain light grey, white, or cream wall.
   • —Face soft light (e.g. a window) so your face and background are evenly lit — no shadows on the face or behind your head.

2. 2.Step 2: Framing and head size

   • —Capture from head to mid-torso with space around the head and shoulders — Passport Online will auto-crop; do not crop too tight.
   • —Aim for the green band in the tool: chin between the two lines when your crown sits near the dashed guide (70–80% head height in the final photo).

3. 3.Step 3: Expression, glasses, and colour

   • —Neutral face, mouth closed; avoid red-eye (soft or no direct flash).
   • —If you wear glasses, ensure there is no glare and frames do not cover your eyes — no tinted lenses.

4. 4.Step 4: Export and upload

   • —Download as JPEG at least 715 × 951 px; the tool keeps the file under the 9 MB Passport Online maximum where the browser allows.
